This is Joes cage, he came with... It is 34x44x67 cm. For now I leave it for him, I added some more perches and toys. He was very shy when we inherited him, atm his cage is his castle, and he's got quite a lot out of cage time, goes back in when he feels like it.

We are looking into getting a bigger cage for him though but after moving house and after he eventually settled in the new environment.

Yo Alex you'll make a good father/mother. Please get rid of the dowels and use natural hardwood perches. Dowels are bad bad bad for their feet lol. I'll tell u why tomorrrow. Too tired now off to bed.
Oh thanks for the advice, but I'm not actually using those perches or bowls. Lucky for me lots of bush around here so I can get as many eucalyptus branches and things as I like. My budgies love chewing all the bark off them.

Have a small budget so it's nothing special but I wanted the biggest I could afford! :)

Took this after we got it, still have to wash it and decorate it.
Watch that one carefully. I had that exact cage and my birds got too smart and learned to open the cage doors and hop right out. lol. I had to get a super sturdy one with different doors.

Hopefully this re-sizes itself....

I'm never going back to wire messy cages. Here's the terrarium I have set up for my cockatiels (the budgies have their own now!). Just got it today so I need to put some new toys and stuff in it but they love it already!! MUCH bigger than the last one. When they are done breeding this time around I'm going to figure out a way to get the nestbox on the outside.
Very impressive, clean & neat I would said.

May I know if this is a glass tank you have there?

What about the cleaning part is it easy?

Thanks

Hi there,

That user hasn't been on since October of last year so I'll answer your questions.

Yes, that is a glass aquarium, and it may be easier to wipe the glass then scrub a cage...BUT I would not recommend housing any birds in glass terrariums like that for a few reasons. Glass confuses many birds, the terrarium isn't well-ventilated and it's not healthy for a bird to breathe its own dander, there is not a cage grate (and I know some peope don't use them) so the birds can walk on their own poo, and if the male bird begins singing (and they always do) then it would be so loud in that tank for the birds it would hurt their ears.

So even though the glass would keep the mess in and it would make it easier on the owners, I don't think it is healthy to house them that way. It is not that difficult to sweep up the mess around the cage every day or so.

Seeing as my birds have paired off and there has been a fair bit of mating going on, I decided to knock up a couple of nest boxes for them today. The one we had in the cage for Rex originally was really a little small anyway and I thought I could build them to mount on the outside of the main cage, freeing up room inside. Each box is 250mm (10 inches) cubed.

Currently pine shavings inside. One of our local tiel breeders, who has a good reputation, prefers to use river sand as bedding as she believes it holds it's warmth better than pine shavings, so maybe I'll try that down the track.

There was a small door on each end of the cage, which I removed and now provides access to the nest boxes.

Now to see if they like their new accommodation

Cheers,
Dave.

I took an old entertainment center and did some wood work to turn it into an enclosure. Fairly inexpensive and entirely unique. I've already been asked to build one for a friend. Dimensions are 40x30x25 we have there tiels in there but they spend most of their day outside the cage.

So here's my cage after I cleaned it last week. :) everything is moved around since the last cleaning, and some new things have been added. And since the picture I have added some toys so it's not so bare as it looks.

Usually I string the chain above perches in the middle of the cage and hang toys off of it, but sometimes the toys get pooped on so I have to be careful. I thought they didn't like the chain as a perch, but I can move it to the top and they'll sit on it all the time. So it just depends where I put it.

using it to hang toys is also a good idea!
