I'd love to see what type of cage or aviary you have for your cockatiels! It would be helpful to people looking to set up a cage for a new tiel too! :D

This is mine, it's dimensions are 18"d x 30"w x 33"h.

I have Cookie and Bailee in it and they seem to have lots of space, so both them and me are very happy with it.:)

Seeing as my birds have paired off and there has been a fair bit of mating going on, I decided to knock up a couple of nest boxes for them today. The one we had in the cage for Rex originally was really a little small anyway and I thought I could build them to mount on the outside of the main cage, freeing up room inside. Each box is 250mm (10 inches) cubed.

Currently pine shavings inside. One of our local tiel breeders, who has a good reputation, prefers to use river sand as bedding as she believes it holds it's warmth better than pine shavings, so maybe I'll try that down the track.

There was a small door on each end of the cage, which I removed and now provides access to the nest boxes.

Now to see if they like their new accommodation

Cheers,
Dave.

I took an old entertainment center and did some wood work to turn it into an enclosure. Fairly inexpensive and entirely unique. I've already been asked to build one for a friend. Dimensions are 40x30x25 we have there tiels in there but they spend most of their day outside the cage.

So here's my cage after I cleaned it last week. :) everything is moved around since the last cleaning, and some new things have been added. And since the picture I have added some toys so it's not so bare as it looks.

Usually I string the chain above perches in the middle of the cage and hang toys off of it, but sometimes the toys get pooped on so I have to be careful. I thought they didn't like the chain as a perch, but I can move it to the top and they'll sit on it all the time. So it just depends where I put it.

and yes the bar spacing is a tad big, we have mesh we put over the sides for when we are not home, when at home its off as we are there to supervise :)

So this is the boys' temporary home, it is about half the size of the flight cage they were in. The dimensions are 30x18x24. They are dealing with the change rather well, though it is more difficult to round them up when we need them back in the cage..they'll be happy when the new double stack arrives. I plan to put one in the top, one in the bottom, and leave the third in the temporary cage until Allie goes over there. So each will have a large amount of space to themselves for a while.

i know when these guys eventually get both halves of the cage, i have to put acrylic sheets around the bottom level, because its low to the ground and our cats would hassle them. but its not a problem for anyone. thats only a few years away (hopefully, we are hoping our hedgehog is with us for a few more years, shes already getting old)

what about kirk and allie? it might work out better and then cage them separate if needed, but maybe it will give kirk a buddy?

i would try that first :) it would make everyone happy. because then the ones separated and left with kirk may be even more miserable and be meaner. i think they may pick on him because hes the 3rd wheel lol
