I'd love to see what type of cage or aviary you have for your cockatiels! It would be helpful to people looking to set up a cage for a new tiel too! :D

This is mine, it's dimensions are 18"d x 30"w x 33"h.

I have Cookie and Bailee in it and they seem to have lots of space, so both them and me are very happy with it.:)

Here's Jasper's Cage:

It's the recommended size for Tiels, but I would LOVE to upgrade it. I know his cage looks empty, but he has lots more stuff in it now. When I go home for Christmas I'll post another picture. He has one of those curvy thingies (late night sorry) now and I put it high up and it's kind of large so his feet don't curl around. He loves that thing, I want to get more, hopefully wood ones to replace those in the pic, but I haven't decided on it.

Solace your cage is SO creative with the way the sticks are and stuff. I like it. :)

K so I fixed up Jas's cage for Christmas and I am so pleased with myself. I hope he learns to use all the new stuff.

A Cockatiel needs adequate space for perching, flapping their wings and walking around. Cockatiels are better off with a cage that is bigger width wise rather than height. Some Cockatiels will spend most of their time sitting on the bottom of the cage, so having a very tall and skinny cage will not fit a Cockatiel's needs. Their tails and wings need to have enough room, so they do not become broken or injured from slamming it on the side of the cage. A square cage is always better than a round one as well. Anything smaller than this could cause problems for your Cockatiel.

Your 'tiel gets lots of out time, so that helps a lot too. I'd recommend if you ever got another cage to get one that's 24"x 22"x 38 or something like that. Your cage isn't really that bad.

I'm currently shopping for a cage. Does anyone have recommendations for dimensions? I don't need a huge, mammoth cage because I am 80% sure I will only have one tiel at a time, at the MOST two.

Also, if you buy a cage online, how does it ship? Is it disassembled? I live in an apartment building so it would get stuck in the rental office until I picked it up.

Sarah, here are a couple of options for you. the first company is in Chicago.
http://www.windycityparrot.com/page/Windycityparrot/CTGY/cagesbreed I ordered 2 of the cages at the top of this page. They are a great size and easy to put together. The folks at Windy City Parrot were great to deal with. The cage arrived one day before the date promised. http://www.bird.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=502906+WHT I also have one of these and it is very well built and the addition of the seed catcher makes it easier to keep clean around it.

You can NEVER have a cage that is too big. Always try to get the biggest cage you can afford. If you think its big, it will definitely keep him/her happy!
Good luck!

Plus... you'll have room for a possible future friend :p

The actual cage dimensions are: Actual Cage dimensions are 32 Inch L x 24 Inch W x 45 Inch H.
like you said. The added up height is including the stand. It is less than four feet tall.
All you need to worry about is the bar spacing of a cage. That is what limits you to the size. If it is too big the bird's head can get caught in it.

Ok, good! Glad to hear--I am also 5'4".

Maybe I was confused. I thought that 68.5 inches was around 5'8", which would be taller than me.

In the future I may add another tiel to keep the other company while I am at work, so this will be a good fit. Plus, I want to spoil him/her anyway.

Thanks again for all the help you guys have been giving me. I'm a huge animal lover and this is a big deal to me. I want everything to be great for the little guy/girl I get.

5 feet is 60 inches so there must be something wrong with their measurement in that case. The rest of the dimensions sound right though. I measured it and the depth from the front to the back is 24". The width from one side to the other is 31" and the total height including stand is just under 60" WITHOUT the castors. I took mine outside to give it a good cleaning and lost two of the castors on some concrete steps so I just took them all off. It seems fine to me without them! The seed catcher also adds several inches to both the depth and width dimentions.

Gosh...all your cages are so nice! I wish I had found you guys BEFORE i bought mine!!! I bought mine from Petsmart...it was listed as a cockatiel cage starter. But darn for $50 more I could have had an awesome cage like the ones I just seen!

I paid $99 for this one and it came with a few supplies. I wonder if I can return it? I don't have any of the packaging but I have my receipt, but I also opened and used all the supplies it came with.

Tell me your honest opinions!
