Forgive me if this has been asked before, but what does everything think about Lafeber Company Nutri-Berries Cockatiel Pet Food?

Zappy eats half pellets and half these Nutri-Berries. Of course, I also supplement his diet with plenty of fruits and veggies. Is the nutrition for the Nutri-Berries essentially the same as pellets?

Hey Zappy! Well, the nutriberry isn't quite as nutritionally complete as a good pellet because the tiel can still pick and choose which bits he/she wants to eat and chuck the rest all over the floor ;) They're still very good, though, and they form the biggest element of my Murray's diet along with pellets, occasional seeds, veggies and odd things like rice, quinoa, etc etc. She loves them! Try Lafeber's avicakes too. Murray goes crazy for it :)

As for pellets I've never tried the lafeber's brand - Murray and I are Harrison's girls!

Nutriberries have equivalent nutrients as pellets. The seeds in them are unhulled. Some cockatiels don't like pellets so eating nutriberries is much better than a cockatiel that doesn't eat pellets. I'm not trying to disagree with you, Charlotte. I'm just giving my 2 cents. I hope I didn't come off as rude.

Edit: those Avicakes sound reallllllly good! I'll buy them next time I go to Petsmart because I have heard good reviews on it.

They're not too bad. Some of the seeds are hulled, so all of the nutritious coating isn't lost through the shells. They do have corn syrup, though. I prefer to use them as a treat - and my guys only eat them crushed up. Whole ones just get flung on the floor :p They smell amazing though - sometimes I am tempted to eat one!

My guys enjoy nutriberries a whole lot :) They're supposed to be a good transitioning food between seeds and pellets because they introduce the birds to the round shape of pellets. I just wish they weren't so expensive - $16-17 for a small pail! But if they're good for your birds and the birds like them, I would certainly say they're worth it :)

Good Lord! That's an awesome price compared to what i pay up here! I could get two containers for the price of one, LOL! I should do some more shopping on line :) Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Vicki is from NZ, so that USA link isn't going to help.

I personally bought a tub off eBay myself but ended up paying US$24. Shipping is really a killer. Finally found a local source but it's still US$18.

The worst part? Cassie only eats one half of it. The other half she won't touch. In particular she will toss out the little black seeds (what are they?).

The classic cockatiel NutriBerries were Baby Boy's main food for over 27 years. Veggies, eggs, mixed seeds and so forth were added for variety but not pellets which I once tried but he refused so I did not push them on him. Percy eats NutriBerries now. I used AviCakes as an occasional treat like honey-sticks - they do not look like a good main food.

My guy loves the regular nutriberries for cockatiels, not the other flavors that come in the bags. He likes them in the ball shape so he can chew them apart. He eats them as part of his diet of seed mix, pellets and birdy bread packed with veggies.

I tried the avicakes with the budgies a while back and they didn't like them as much as the nutriberries (I have to crumble the nutriberries for the budgies, they can't break them apart and end up just flipping them to the floor of the cage where they then get pooped on). I haven't tried the aviberries with Coyote, so no idea if he'd like them but based on his dislike of the other flavored nutriberries, I have a feeling he'd dislike them. Honestly, I didn't see much difference in them anyways and looking at the nutrients, the nutriberries looked better nutritionally but I can't remember the particulars and I'm too lazy to look it up.
