Took Corkey to the Avi-Vet last week, to get his beak trimmed and to confirm that he has cataracts ... he is almost blind in doth eyes, can only see shapes with his right eye, happened so fast ... it so saddening ... going to the Vet traumatized him, he lost 4.5 gm that day, he has gained some back ... 86 gm today.

Im trying to teach myself not to move his water and food around. not sure what else I can do for him ... except love him and care for him.

I've heard birds that have bad or no sight can still be good, active birds. I recommend a small, longer cage, so if he slips, it's not a long way down. I've never dealt with anything like that, but that's what I would do.

And I don't think threads can be unlocked. I think you would have to do a continuation post

Aww bless him, definitely see it, it looks like when people are blind or dogs are going blind. I agree with Cali a shorter longer cage would be safer and get some bells to hang from his perches, I don't have experience with blind tiels but I do have experience with blind people and dogs. My aunty gives everyone who guides her a bell to put on their bag or clothes. So get bird safe ones and hang them quite lose so they jingle when he moves about, could help him with navigating his cage and put different types of bells on his food or water. If you do get a new cage show him around by guiding him on your finger in my opinion it would help but I'm no expert or vet

Corky

Sorry to hear about Corky's eyesight and other issues. How old is he? I know they can learn where their food is even if they cannot see well; will he eat from your hand as well?
By the way, I just had cataract surgery yesterday! Too bad we can't do that for our birds. Maybe some vet somewhere would do it, but I imagine it would be quite costly.
The isolette you came up with seems like a great idea for him!
