Our new years resolution was to wean our birds off an all-seed diet. I have offered veggies every day for 6 weeks. I tried big pieces, small pieces, grated veg, sprinkled with seed, removing seed completely... I tried everything that people have suggested.
Finaly I gave up. I just popped a few pieces of veg into a dish with some budgie seed mixed in and offered it every morning, throwing it away every afternoon.
Last Saturday I was alarmed to see Billy had red stains on his beak

By watching him carefully we caught him stuffing himself silly on red pepper, then cucumber!
Today I discovered he also likes celery.

His favourite thing is to stand on the dish, eat something then drop the rest on the floor. It makes a very satisfying 'plop' as it lands on the newspaper.
Now all we have to do is persuade Ernie to eat his veg too.

We are so proud of Billy

The only way mine will realize anything is food is if I "eat" it first. Normally if I do that for Cinnamon she can get the others to eat it. So maybe by Billy eating his veggies, if Ernie sees that he'll realize they're good for him too?

Arnie eats vegies, but it's still a constant struggle sometimes she'll be like "nup, not today, not gonna eat it, gonna eat millet today mum, ok?" and I'll be like "no I don't think so" so she'll begrudgingly eat her vegies but spit most of them on the floor. It's annoying when you lovingly prepare a healthy meal only for it to end up in the vacuum cleaner instead of in your tiel. *sigh* don't they know we're doing it for their health?

Well done on getting them to eat their vegies! Hopefully they'll keep eating them for you!

The red pepper stains are so funny XD, that's the way I new my boy was eating them too. It's great that you managed to get an older bird onto a healthier diet. I highly recommend using a mirror to get them to try new foods, they can't help but peck at the shiny surface and pick up whatever's on there. I hope he continues to do well.
My bird looked at me like I was stupid when I first offered him veggies - he was kinda scared of them too XD. He's only a baby though so after playing around with them for a week he decided he actually liked them and was gonna eat 'em.
But when there's seed hanging around it's much more appealing. So now I prepare the veggies the night before and give them too him in morning without any seed then when I come home from school he gets his two table spoons of seed and he's happy. This way he eats most all his veg but still gets what he needs.
