I was at one of my favourite family-run pet stores today, and the guy there rescues cockatiels. He keeps them in a big flight in the backroom. He will sometimes let me back there to visit them. Anyway, there's this one little tiel I've always loved. He is a normal grey, but he has this yellow belly and a yellow bum too. What mutation would this be?

I'll try to take pics next time I'm there...

He might be a pied cockatiel

He doesn't look like a pied though..he is like a normal grey with a yellow burst on his belly. Weird I say

I think some normal greys do have more yellow showing through on their lower belly and butt. I know Bailee has a very yellow wash over that area, at first glance his body looks all brown because of the pale colour he is, but he's got the yellow patch you're describing.

He doesn't look like Bailee, he's grey with a yellow head, and then a bright yellow burst (as bright as his head) covering his tummy and butt. Its strange. I think I want this little tiel. I saw him a couple months ago and fell in love.

I'm going to ask the guy if I can adopt a tiel from him. I'ld love this little bizarre one.

It's a pied for sure. Some are more "pied" then others.

He sounds very unique. A grey with a yellow belly, huh? He does sound like a pied, but if you're sure he's not...

I thought pied's were like striped though...??? Or with patches on their wings??

I googled "pied cockatiels" even though I knew what they looked like and not one looked like him..he's like a normal grey. He's odd.

I am going to try to take a pic tommorrow. He is very cute!

Not all pieds are like that. I've seen some that have less markings.

Yes i know, i was just using Bailee to show the yellow patch. Bailee's a cinny pied not a normal grey. The normal grey i wanted to buy the other day also had the yellow tummy.

Maybe he is, I try to take a pic. I really want this little 'tiel. If I get him I am thinking of naming him Snickers.

Thanks! So do I. The guy knows I like birds because I've brought one of my conures in there a couple times. He also takes in homeless kittens and adopts them out.

I'm going to wait awhile because I am getting in two rescue GreenCheeked Conures, and then get my tiel after they are settled. Even if I don't get this tiel I am going to try to get a tiel, because they are very cute & smart.
