Well recently my cockatiel has started to fly to the floor and I don't usually allow her on there because he might be stepped on or he might eat something off the ground.

Whenever I try to pick him up he runs away really fast and for some reason it always makes me laugh because of the way his chickeny little body wiggles about as he runs.

He licks off every thing he can see on the floor and I'm worried that this floor habit of his will result in him eating something he shouldn't.

I don't think it's a flying problem because he flies to the higher places and does circles high up in the air as well.

What is making my cockatiel attracted to the floor? Is it because he likes eating stuff off the floor? Is it because I laugh when he runs?

this is normal cockatiel behavior! in the wild, cockatiels forage for food on the ground. he’s just exhibiting his natural instincts to look for food! i let my cockatiels look around on the floor under my supervision, and i haven’t had any issues. of course, you have to be mindful of potential dangers when they’re exploring the floor. predatory animals and wires are my main concern. as long as there’s no cats, dogs, or ferrets roaming around in the same room, you can supervise your cockatiel to make sure that he doesn’t get himself into trouble.
