I was just wondering at what age do they go through thier "adult" molt, that isn't what the molt is at around 4 months old is it?

I've got one tiel who is confusing me (my b/f doesnt agree with me though) one day last week while i was feeding/watering and talking to all the birds I heard a small, short whistle (sounded like a start of a wolf whistle) and The only tiel near me at the time was Shyanne and Star
shyanne is a Pied (with bars on her tail), Star is a Pearl Pied(With bars on her tail) both of these came with the rest of the tiels I got from that rescue back in Nov. and I only know for sure that 3 are male and 2 are females and i only know the age of One because hes the only one with a band on - and he also looks very old , where shyanne an Star doesn't look very old

So that has brought me to wonder when on earth do they go through thier adult molt, and is there any way of guessamating an age

if i assume they're all related to the one w/ a band (which is highly likely) then I'd have 8 tiels all around the age of 21/22 and I just don't think thats right LOL specially since only Hop A Long looks like an Old man.which he's the only one with a band so i know he is a old man LOL

As you know they go through there first molt anywhere from 6 mths to a year after that when there adults they usually go through a molt 2-3 times a year there is no way to guess the age of a tiel its almost impossible really, the best broad range you would get is juvenile, adult or geriatric.
Pieds are visually impossible to sex you cannot go by there tail feathers, if you have a pearl pied you should be able to tell by the pearls or lack of pearls chances are she is female I am going with the fact that the tiels you got from the rescue are mostly likely adults and not young.

oh ok I thought all females had the bars on thier tails, I read it some where but for the life of me i can't remember

Yeah I noticed today Lucy(the tiel from the rescue) looks older then Lily One i'd gotten months ago who's only 4 yrs old but out of all of em Just Lucy and Hop A Long actually look "old" i know they don't actually age (like a dog or cat or human LOL) but hopefully that makes sense though

All females do have the bars on there tails but some males keep them as well in pieds, thats why its so hard to tell with them.
oo ok, So they just love to be confusing LOL

I guess one of these days I may find out if they're males or females, but then again i may never know - But oh well they're still adorable, and my little clowns so that's all that matters

I would think it would be fairly easy to tell with your's what the gender is seeing as there mostly older going by behaviour I find once they hit 4-6 mths males are easy to spot going by behaviour yes there are some chatty females who can wolf whistle but most males show there true identity with there hopping around singing beak banging head dipping etc etc.

I've never noticed the males beak bang unless thats what bart is doing in side the nesting box to get all the females attention ( he did go in the nest box the other day(the cage door was open we were letting him choose which female he wants even know we already know he only seems interested in the 2 lutinos) but anyway he went in and started his mating song, and knocking on the walls of the box he got Stars attention along with 2 budgies they all came running to his cage (it was funny though LOL)

Hop A Long - Got his name because While he loves hopping back and forth and chattering lol, but he's the only one who's hopped

it's wierd because my males are fairly quiet *even my budgie males* its the females that make the most noise, but the Male tiels will get into moods that they'll whistle for a while, a couple of them do it at a certain time of night, it's like a ritrual because Billy (our quaker) will get in his silly mood the same time every night as well)
