Just curious if someone could explain something to me? So Echo is the palest grey like white with just a touch of grey mixed in. He has no facial markings whatsoever, his head is grey, theres no white nor yellow, and no cheek markings. The only markings he has anywhere are the two white stripes on his wings. The closest I can get to his type is a double factor dominant pastel silver whiteface, but he doesn't have a whiteface, is this because he's young? (13 weeks old) will his markings change? or is he just some really strange mutation? I was under the impression white faces had a white face even as babies...

Theres pics of Echo in my sig, he's actually lighter in colour in real life but otherwise their pretty accurate. Oh and I'm pretty sure he's a boy he chatters away continually and can already speak.

The lack of whiteface would be because he's young. All baby tiels in anything resembling a normal coloured tiel (normal, whiteface, cinnamon, etc) will have the coloured face and then it will turn white/yellow when they moult.

I think as he gets older he will get a white face Spike is getting more yellow in him now. So I guess even the pieds will get some kind of adult colouring

Okay so if he is male he'll have a bright white face? if he's female he'll stay grey? I haven't meant many tiels so can't be certain on the male, but am under the impression that female teils are very quiet and rarely make noise? Echo won't shut up most of the time.

If he doesn't shut up it's pretty safe to say he's a boy, and yes, he'll get the bright white face!

I know Echos a reject from someone who breeds birds for show... but surely it can't be that hard to tell what he is LOL.

I'm not really familiar with the more rare mutations, but from the pictures Echo certainly looks platinum compared to the links you posted.

where abouts in nsw are you Avalon?
one of my 'cinnamons' is actually a platinum... i found the breeder and spoke to him!
its Fenkussu, the platinum pearl pied...

the colour almost looks cinnamon on Fang, as he is a dark platinum, but next to the cinnamons, it is clearly a smokey cinnamon grey colour...
there are a few breeders now breeding platinums, so they are likely to pop up a lot more in our NSW/QLD members...lol

Echo will get a white face...(he was dna'd male wasnt he?) in his 6-8 month moult... the patches on his wings are a 'regular' white wing patch right?, cos if they are bigger, and if there are more white irregular spots on him somewhere (even a discoloured toenail) he may actually be a extreemly light pied, and will therefore keep his coloured face, this could also explain the colour of his beak...
but more likely he is just yet to go through his moult

Echo was bought from Newcastle in NSW, he was in a cage of various rare mutations so a platinum isn't out of the question. No he hasn't been DNA tested, male is just my gut feeling since from what i've read about females very few talk, and very few seem inclined to give their owner blow by blow accounts of their day in bird language LOL, which is what Echo does every time I get him out in the afternoon. He does have the barred tail and spots on his wings so will be able to tell when he molts.

He could be pied I'm not sure, as he's so pale it's hard to distinguish a few small white feathers LOL.

Actually though just looking at him, he has two teeny white feathers on the back of his neck....

well i would say he is split to pied, and therefore if he is a boy, he will get a white face as he matures, some boys get their white face quickly, and some are over a year old when the finally moult out all the cover colour to leave the base of yellow or white...
