Hi, lately my cockatiel has been sitting/sleeping in his food container. He gets in the whole thing and lays down flat out so I thought maybe he was a she but there are never any eggs. Today when he was doing it was was wagging his tail a bit (first time I’ve seen that happen).

does anyone know what this behaviour means?

extra information (not sure if it’s any help) - cockatiel is about 17 years old and has always been by himself but comes out of the cage at night time to come inside and regularly comes out of his day cage if I’m at home

Its hormonal behaviour but i don’t know why he’s doing that over his food...
Bit strange.
Thank you for replying! good to know that - yes I thought it was weird but also maybe because it’s cool to sit on the seed (I live in Queensland, Australia)

Ah you come from the country the cockatiels are actually from which is interesting
Maybe it’s a protection thing to stop his food running off
