She seemed completely fine yesterday but today since I came down stairs she's been intermittently screaming. Then when my partner came down she stood on top of her cage made a soft little sound, and her vent was opening and closing with her tail going up and down. This went on for just less than 5 minutes and now her chirps are normal but a bit more frequent. We've been told she's a female around 6 months old. The vet checked her two days ago and said she was healthy. Her poop is little larger and less digested than usual. And she seems a little fluffed up.

Has anyone else's cockatiel been like this? Is this something to worry about?

I'm not sure about the anatomy of cockatiels as far as egg laying goes...

but is there a possibility this is her trying to lay her first egg?

It's not impossible, she had no male and hasn't been with a male, but they do lay infertile eggs sometimes I believe, just wanted to ensure it's nothing to worry about.

IT is completely possible.
I have had many birds that will lay their eggs every month or so and have no males near them whatsoever.

If it's just hormonal behavior the techniques at http://talkcockatiels.com/showthread.php?t=32330 are effective with most cockatiels.
