It is very hard to impossible to tame untame tiels unless tamed from a baby. I have a rescue from 6 months old to now 11 1/2. She is at best, 6 inches of separation. Loves a chat from me as long as I keep my distance from her safe space. That is her safety distance compared to all my tame from baby tiels who learn to love humans from hatching.
A bigger cage is good, but don't introduce too many toys. They are somewhat on the spectrum and "hate" change or overcrowding. Only give 2-3 toys separated in their space and never change out to another space.
Lettuce is really bad for any bird. I would imagine kale is the same to them as they don't have in the wild.
They will bite big time if you try to touch them if not tame from babies. You cannot change this, just respect their personal space.
Hang millet by pegs/clips on inside or out of cage, not feed to them. Some don't even like it. They will learn to eat or not. I put frozen corn/peas/carrot covered by boiling water from jug for about 2 minutes in a dish drained/cooled. They love it and will learn to eat. Particularly corn. They don't like fruit by the way. Not their natural diet. A little bit of cooked egg for protein, plus tiny bit of meat. They love small amounts of cooked chicken, mince, lamb, pork, beef, etc also cooked potatoes-yum, yum 😄
