Hi everyone, I'm new here. My 3 year old albino cockatiel Chum Chum has been acting a little strange in the past few hours. She was great this morning, she had some millet and some lettuce. I took her out for her afternoon play time with me and she started yawning and then pumping her neck and shaking it side to side as if she was trying to get something out. Nothing came out and she gave a dry sneeze instead. This has been going on and off for about an hour now, every 10 to 15 mins she'll do this pump/shake thing and then just sneeze.

Right now she's sitting on my shoulder close to the neck to keep her feet warm (they're not cold but also not as warm as they usually are) and we're sitting in the sun to keep her nice and toasty. She took a nice 20 min nap on my shoulder and did the same sneeze thing when she woke up. She's also doing her mating noises, that twittering chirping noise females do when they are mating, and also asking for head scratches. Her poop is fine and normal, and other than that everything is ok.

Should I go out and get antibiotics and add to her food and water as a precaution? Or should I just keep monitoring her? Anything I should look out for? Thanks.

Never use OTC (over the counter) antibiotics/meds if you do not know the cause of the problem. What you are describing sounds 'possibly' like a yeast or problem with the crop, if so, antibiotics are only going to compound the problem.

Keep monitoring her. If she still does not seem herslf tomorrow, then you might consider taking her to a vet.

In the interim go back over the last day, and write down everything you have done or given her, or any changes to the environment etc. It may give clues to the problem.
