I have been weighing Spike and have noticed that his weight does not seem normal. The lightest he has ever been was 78.2 grams and the heaviest he has ever been was 83 grams. At 1:00pm today he was 78.7 grams and at 9:30pm he was 82 grams. Do I just have a tiny tiel? I heard that 90 grams should be the lightest an adult cockatiel should weigh. What do you guys think do I have a runt :p He is acting normal.

I wouldn't worry to much Jaime, he doesn't look that small to me, I think just like people there shaped differently I look at my Georgie and she is a giant compared to the other three, Lee is a fairly skinny boy as well and he is fine I think the weight scale varies according to what website you look at I have heard the average tiel is 80-95 grams.

I also look at my Pepper the breed standard for a shih tzu is 9-16 pounds and Pepper is only 6 pounds doesn't matter what she eats she has always been small, most people think she is a puppy and she is almost 4 and there have been no health problems, she is just small thats all.

Bailee and Snickers are usually in the low 80's, and they've both been as little as 78g. As long as the keel bone isn't sticking out lots (i.e. they have meat on their bones) you shouldn't worry.

That sounds like the normal weight, the experts can't say that your tiel has to be 90 grams because all tiels vary in size! :D Should I be weighing Earl because I don't even have scales, and if yes what type of scales are best...?

Thanks,

I don't think his keel bone is sticking out too much. There is a small line but it is only noticeable on his cream part of his tummy. Also he is healthy enough to decide he would like to have some eggs  :p The scale I have is a really good one, it is called i balance 1200 professional digital scale.
