Thinking of Getting a Male Cockatiel.

Hey everyone.

I've been thinking for a while to get a male cockatiel of some mutation. I really love the pieds and fancy mutations, but really mutations aren't an issue for me. Since i have two females, i would just like to try something different and get a male. I love the sound of birds, and live in house so noise is not an issue at all. If i do decide to get a male cockatiel this wouldn't happen until at the very earliest around December. As i plan on getting a senegal parrot sometime before then.
I've also been reading up on breeding etc. I may decide to breed them im still undecided there.
Right now i mainly want just a male cockatiel in my flock.

Also another question i have, Since i have two females, well my lutino is for sure a female, my white faced cinnamon split pied i'm not exactly sure, i'm pretty sure she's a female because she is real quiet and stuff.

Anyway my question is would the two tiels fight over the male? I DON'T plant on putting them all in the same cage. I would buy another cage for the male.

Would it be better if got two males and kept them as pairs?

Or have the males and females in their own cage?

Do two males get along ok in the same cage?

I am not an expert on this...lol as I only have a male and a female both young and in seperate cages but from what I have read and I have read lots :D most of the information says that...
Cockatiels are one of the most friendly birds with each other. They rarely fight and you can have two together of either sex.
I guess the only way you can really find out is to try. Like all species, sometimes these things go smoothly and sometimes you'll have little hiccups along the way. I wouldn't think you would have much trouble though, like Laura pointed out, tiels are very peaceful and friendly. :)
Ya, i could start off with one extra male and if things go smooth i could get another. Or i could get two males, and have another smaller cage on hand in case they fight at any time.
Make sure you have a extra cage. Then if things go bad the male has somewere to live.
Ya i plan on keeping it in a seperate cage. PLus i would need to buy a new tiel cage anyway for quarrintine. LOL unless a 12Lx19Hx11W cage would work LMAO JK

:p I don't even think a tiel could sit in something that tiny without mushing its tail and crest!! No doubt some idiot in the world would try it though.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone did
Ya it WAS my budgies temporary birds cage but thank god i have a moved them into a much bigger cage for them now. I plan to only use it as a travel cage. For the budgies though. The door is probably too small for a cockatiel to even fit in unless you put it in side ways or something.

Yes it really would not surprise me if someone has ANY bird in that size of a cage. I regret ever putting in my budgies in there. But it was kind of a impulse buy. I saw them couldn't help but to get them they were so stunning.
They make really good travel cages, i have a little one like that which i take budgies to the vet in. :)
yes they do make really good travel cages, i have saw loads of them !:)
