My name is Nibbles and I am six months old. I love my Jimbo and enjoy getting head scritches on demand and always immediately fly to him when I am called.

Jimbo’s son, however, has started making noises about wanting a cockatiel of his own to scritch. I don't like him very much because he is too buzzy.

My question is, if another cockatiel joined the family would I still love my Jimbo or would I only have eyes for the new feathered specimen? Would I still enjoy my head scritches?

Hi there, welcome to the forum!

There's no guarantee that Nibbles will get along with another cockatiel but if you want another one, go ahead! Seeing as Nibbles is so bonded to his/her owner, I don't think having another cockatiel around would disrupt that bond. :)

Cockatiels that are already bonded to a human will usually stay bonded when another bird joins the flock, and they may or may not like the new bird. But when a bird that is not already bonded to humans joins an existing flock, they may only be interested in the other bird(s) and not want to interact with the humans. So if you want another bird, look for one that is already very tame and human-friendly.

Young birds are more adaptable than older ones, and you (Nibbles) are young. So there is a good chance that you and a new flockmate will get along well together. Cockatiels are very romantic, so if you don't want to have baby birds it's best to get a same-sex bird to be your companion.
