So,just yesterday i rescued a female lutino cockatiel.she was bred at a very young age (she didnt lay eggs because her partner died 2 days after being a couple) she was tamed but after her loss she she lost trurst of humans.Anyways, i started talking to her but when i put my hand in the cage she freaks out. So any advice on how should i tame her? I have absolute no problem working with her daily with months just so she become tamed.Thank you for reading.

First of all THANK you for rescuing this sweet bird! The fact that your willing to take the extra time with her to regain trust is a VERY good start! Just talk to her often and try not to rush her. When you do put your hand in her cage, go slow. Don't make any sudden moves that might scare her. Offer your bird treats such as millet and broccoli from time to time. In the end, it SOUNDS like you have what it takes to really help this bird along!

You can let her out of the cage but what ever you do, DON'T grab or force her. That's the quickest way to lose a birds trust you've worked hard to build up. Now as for getting her back in.......THAT could be an issue. Is she fully flighted? By that I mean has her wings been clipped? The FIRST thing I would recommend before letting her out too much is start getting her to step up.....onto your finger. This is the best way to get a bird out of it's cage as well as putting it back in.
