Hi guys, this is my first post here and my first cockatiel. Her name is Bailey, she is 5 months old and I'm already in love.

I just was looking for some tips in regards to the first day/week at home. I've made a checkup appointment with a vet for next week when she settles in a bit. As of right now, she's being super chill. She stayed on the same perch looking around for a few hours, then got down to the bottom of the cage where she still is now. She has food and water.

should I just leave her be for today/tonight? any advice and tips are very welcome.

thanks!

first day/week

Hi and congrats on your new little friend! It is good for the first few days or week to let them get used to you gradually. Put his cage in an area where he can see you and your family, but not in a busy area. Sit near the cage, talk to him. You can offer him some kind of treat held in your fingers. Small pieces of millet spray work great for that. Offer it to him in your fingers, but if he seems frightened, back off. He will gradually get used to the sound of your voice and the presence of your hand. Soon he will step up on your hand to get the millet. One trick I have used once hie is eating millet from your fingers: hold the millet between your thumb and forefinger. As he picks at the millet, slowly roll your hand towards you. He'll have to stretch to reach the millet and may just step up on your hand. Mostly, be patient. Think what a huge change has happened in his life! I am sure you will be "best buds" in no time!
