My 3-4 year old male cockatiel has had sneezing fits today. They started this morning very suddenly, he wasn’t sneezing yesterday.
After some food and water he seems a little better but is still having sneezing fits.
Those were the only symptoms he’s had, there was no odd colored discharge, no wheezing, his eyes, ears, and feathers are alright, and he still eats and drinks.
He’s still active and playful as well.
Maybe I’m overly worried, but I want to know if anyone could know what this means and what I should do about it.
If he develops other symptoms and/or gets worse we will be taking him to the vet.

I have a similar issue! Ever since I got him (it's been 3 weeks now) he sneezes at least every day and sometimes even 5 times in a day. I am so worried! Please answer someone...!

Hello everyone. Unfortunately he passed away this morning. His symptoms quickly got worse and he eventually could not take it anymore.
Please watch your bird very carefully and try your best to take care of them the second you see symptoms of an illness.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Echo 😔 He's going to be flying high over the rainbow Bridge with our many passed babies. I'm sorry to hear about the sudden sickness. Birds are so good at hiding it until it's too late. Happened with one of my budgies a few months ago, so I understand how sad it can be 😰

I would suggest taking your baby to an Avian Vet just to be on the safe side. I'm no expert on Cockatiel health, so that is my best advice to you.

The sneezing fits started to slow down a bit but he started to have trouble breathing. He would only breath through his mouth and it made a snotty wheezing sound. He eventually refused to eat or drinking and a few hours before he died he had trouble standing up and moving. He had a spasm and flapped his wings around and hyperventilated before he went limp and stopped breathing.
This all happened throughout a couple of days.
I hope this helps and your bird quickly recovers.

Here is the thing, I don't want to do that. Many times people have gotten their pet bird to the vet only for the bird to catch sickness there because all of the sick birds. Unless it's really clean, he might get something worse than what he already has, so, a "just to be safe" is not an option for me right now, unless someone changes my mind about the advice I got from breeders on vets, which is what I said right now.

Oh... Uh It hasn't shown anything else like that but the sneezing fits have seemed to slow down... Oh god now I am getting nervous...

Idk, I've taken my three Budgies and Tiel to vets many times, and they all came back perfectly happy and healthy. I doubt any veterinarian clinic would wanna take your sick bird around other birds and risk their health, too. I had one of my budgies dealing with a respiratory infection, got her medications, and she is still alive today. Whatever breeder told you that must be really paranoid, not to be rude about it. The reality is that you're risking your own pet's health over paranoia, so you'd only have yourself to blame if something worse happens because of what a breeder claimed...

Try your best to keep your bird warm (Unless they have a fever!) and calm. Stress and cold can make them worse. Insure they get lots of water and healthy food.
If it looks like they are getting worse take them to a vet immediately. Most birds die because they aren’t treated soon enough. If you are given antibiotics watch how they effect your bird.
Birds have a tendency to hide their symptoms until it’s too late.
I really hate to say this- but if things do come down to them passing away, try your best to prepare yourself and just know you tried your best. Do not worry though, if the sneezing is going away and their health picks up, they should be able to heal fairly well as long as you take care of them.

I agree with ya. The vet we took my bird to was clean and tried their best, we were just too late.
Checking reviews and seeing what the clinic has to offer is the best thing to do to make sure they can care for your bird.

Okay! Thanks! The sneezing has stopped, thankfully and he seems to be doing a lot better. Sadly, I have a big problem with his diet. He will ONLY eat millet. He will shout and shout and shout for hours, starving himself, untill we give him millet, even though he has other seeds right in front of him. He has tried them and he knows they are edible but he is a little brat and only wants to eat millet. How am I supposed to make him eat pellets and veggies if he won't even eat seeds?! (Other than millet) the maximum amount of times I have seen him nibble and some other types of seeds where around 60, which is honestly really good, but it only lasted a day. He has eaten two packages (around 15 sticks) of millet in 3 weeks. I honestly don't know what to do and it isn't good for him. I have left him withought millet for 5 hours since morning, seeing if he will eat, but sadly he just started panicking and throwing a tantrum, going at the bottom of his cage, screaming all the time, and frantically running around to get my attention. It's sad and I want to feed him something else but it just seems impossible at this point. Although, sometimes he eats normally, which is awesome, but those are only the good daysm
