Hello everyone
I have a 10 month old cockatiel, male he is a very social bird talks and sings alot
Last week i noticed that he stopped being social and stopped talking , he also had diarrhea, i took him to the avian vet he gave him a small amount of antibiotics straight to the mouth and my tiel started vomiting
Since then he is sleeping alot and not chirping like he used to and not drinking water nor eating unless i feed him
I gave him antibiotics in the water with vitamins and changed his diet
His diarrhea is slightly better but he lost some weight
I took him to the vet again he told me that he is fine he just needs time to process because his food has gone bad that is what caused the infection.
Im really worried though he is not moving alot , he started drinking water alone and eating a bit but no singing and always sleeping.
He sometimes starts chirping when he sees me go in the room other than that he is tired
Please advice me what can i do to help him and to make him gain the weight back?
Ps: i brought another male cockatiel for my friend until she got back from her travels , might it be the reason why he is sick? I mean is he jealous or depressed?
Im very scared for him

The antibiotics will make him tired. As long as he is eating and drinking water, that is a good sign. Did they test his poop? You could ask the vet about giving him fluids so he doesn't get dehydrated especially if he is still vomiting. It will take a few days for the antibiotics to show that they are working. Is the antibiotics in the water what your vet gave you? You should follow what your vet says to do.

So this is day 6 of being sick
He stopped vomiting on day 4, he started eating small portions and drinking water in small portions also all on his own on day 4 also
But his poop is still kind of looks like diarrhea
Im giving him antibiotics with vitamins in water and giving him 2 dots in the syringe 3 times a day
Unfortunately we dont have that kind of testing to test his poop
Is there anything i can do?

If the vet didn't prescribe the antibiotics in the water then maybe stop that and tell the vet you were giving him both... and see what they tell you to do from there... Because maybe it's a little too much antibiotics, and that could give him diarrhea too, plus make him tired. If the vet prescribed him both antibiotics then continue.

Otherwise that sounds good that the vomiting stopped and he is eating, the weight will come back when he eats returns to normal. You could still ask about the subcutaneous fluids so he doesn't get dehydrated. If the poop is just kinda soft looking and the white parts are white and separate from the dark, that's a good sign too.
Hope he is feeling better soon.
