I had a problem with that too... had some food holders that just hung on the cage and Tiki would throw food all over. So ordered a couple of these. The small ones

Made all the difference in the world, since his food is crumbles and a seed mixed with dehydrated veggies, fruit and nuts I didn't want it wasted either. Now there is very little on the cage floor. Some but I see he is eating more of the dehydrated veggies and fruit since I changed cups. The holders that came with his cage are covered also. Sure does help... :)

I just have the dishes on the side of the cage, but I don't put a lot in them. Just around two tablespoons of seed in each, that way I don't waste as much. If they throw it on the floor of their cage, they like to forage around for it anyway. As for the floor around the cage.......well, that's another matter lol. I've invested in one of those small hand held vacuums, you can get them in Argos, it was £24.00 but well worth it.

one cage I have a Hooded food dish

other cages I was using dishes that are meant for dogs, it goes on crates

the birds (including tiels) loved to sit in their food dish when they ate - there for all the food got thrown out

This stopped it because they could still get in it and sit and eat but could not get the food kicked up and out because it's deep

looks like this (got ours at walmart in the pet isle)

I use the bowls that come with the cage, they do drop empty seed shells on the floor, but they don't waste much.

-I have seen those seed holders that have a cover over them so the seed can't really go anywhere apart from the bowl, so I bet they would work! :D

I know how you feel...Little Mikey makes a terrible mess...I think I should get him bigger bowls because as said in this post...he loves to sit in the bowl and climbing in and out he kicks out seed....he also...if i am near him and don't get him out...picks up seeds and throws and flicks them at me the little brat....i just try to ignore it. I would love to get one of those seed catchers that are plastic on the newer cages...but i would have to buy a new cage and tho I found them online to attach to your cage I can't find anything in Australia....those seed cups with covers look great tho

You can buy those exact covered feeders from myparrotshop.com (link to the page is here: http://myparrotshop.com/cage-accessories/cat_27.html), it's an Australian online bird supply store. I have one of those for water, and a CFS Food & Treat Dispenser for food. The shop delivers very quickly and they're pleasant to communicate with.

Of course, I don't actually have my tiel from the breeder yet, so I can't attest to how good they are.
