My sister-in-law just called me her neighbour came over crying I guess he had bought a cockatiel from a breeder recently I think its about 8 weeks old anyways I guess he went to the cage and the cockatiel was dead and he is just devasted the poor guy is alone and in a wheel chair and he just loved this cockatiel in the short time he had it and he is thinking somehow he killed it so she thought she would call me to help him out knowing I had them to, so I asked a few questions and I have come to the conclusion that it probably wasn't weaned properly and he didn't know any better the breeder gave him a list of things to feed it and listed was rice and someone told him if he gave it rice thats probably what killed it I let him know rice would not have killed it but I am getting the feeling this baby wasn't eating and begging for food and he didn't know or there was something else going on with the baby that no one could have known but I honestly don't get that feeling, I suggested he call the breeder and let her know whats going on I really didn't know what to say other then that, I just feel so bad for him :(

Oh- that is sad. :( I hate seeing breeders that try and rush to sell the chicks, unweaned! He could have been sick before, he could have gotten some bad food..it's hard to tell...it's just sad though. Did the person use non-stick pots and pans?
I am not really sure Aly it really could have been many things, the info I got sounds like it was not eating properly :( I asked if it was crying (begging) and he said yes for the last couple days but he didn't know what that meant I guess and I don't think he had a computer to look up information like we did.
No comment...He thought it was normal for it to cry all the time? ..I guess he should have called but the breeder didn't sound like much help either for selling a baby unweaned, esspecially to someone who has NO knowledge about it...It's sad for the tiel that it had to happen that way...I wish I could save them all!~

No comment......then a comment...lol your funny :p:D
I don't think it was crying all the time, and its not for sure that it wasn't weaned it very well could have been but regressed when he got it, thats something the breeder should have warned him about.
thats something the breeder should have warned him about.

I agree with that.
That is so sad, I know that even though we have only had Dooby around about five or six weeks, I would be absolutely devastated if anything happened to him now, so I can sympathise with that man completely. I guess if the breeder told him to do something and he did what the breeder said, then not knowing any different, he must have thought he was doing the right things, and just didn't know the signs. Poor man, he's going to feel guilty about it all no matter what and of course the poor little tiel didn't need to go through that either.

I agree from what I got he did everything he thought he should be doing and was doing everything that was on the list but something went wrong he called the breeder and I think she is going to come to his house tonight so we will see if anything comes of it.
How sad, it really should have been the breeders responsibility to not only make sure the tiel was weaned properly but also provide the new owner with some care information. The begging can continue for weeks and weeks after they're weaned, i know Bailee did it quite a lot, so you would need to know all the signs of a hungry baby as well as that. Very sad. :(
aww now that is sad. Breeders need to make sure there babies are weaned or the person taking them actually know enough to tell if they are not
