You might remember me talking about a really friendly cockatiel in the local pet shop a few months ago. He was an adult normal grey and super cuddly and sweet. I really wanted to buy him but at the time thought three tiels was too much.

Today i went to that pet shop and to my surprise he was there, with his friend still! I decided that had to be a sign and so i rushed home, got some money and went back to buy him this time. But it turned out that both of them belonged to the store owners. :( I find it really annoying that there was no sign to this effect on the aviary they were in.

I thought Cookie would've been so impressed with a normal grey boyfriend. :p Although i'm not sure he could distract her from Ozzie for long enough to catch her eye.

awwww. Thats too bad. I too have a local pet/livestock shop that was recommended to me by someone that has "all types of birds for sale." when I went there they said they only have the two 'teils and ??( can't remember what) as pets in the back of the shop. And other than that, the only birds they sell are chicks. I was upset at the time, but now I have a sweet little 'tiel and its all good. I totally agree with you in that it's stupid that shops have their pets in unmarked aviaries.

These guys are kept in a big aviary all to themselves, and get head rubs and people talking to them all day long, it's a really nice pet shop. :) I wish they would've had a sign up though, because it would've saved me a big disappointment. Another pet shop i've been in where there was a pet cockatiel had a sign saying "I'm not for sale, i belong to a member of the staff", at least that lets you know before you fall in love with an animal.

Thinking it out now it's probably for the best, he would've fit in with my flock but it would be one more way that my attention is divided from my existing 6 fids. :p I would've happily given him a home, because i thought he had been there for so long and could use the love. I will have a big distraction coming in a couple of days, i'll be bird sitting my friends two cockatiels, so i'll have 5 tiels and 3 budgies to keep happy everyday! ;)

Awww..Bea...A sign would have helped..Everything happens for a reason so don't worry. But we all now know 3 might not be enough after all since you had the plan to bring him home. Atleast he's getting the attention there...hopefully he gets to go home at night.

Thats great at least you can take comfort in knowing they are well taken care of, you don't see that to often sounds like a really nice pet shop :D
It really is, one of my favourites. :)

I have thought about it and i can't help but think that the lack of a sign is a sales trick. You fall in love with the stores pets, and then when they tell you they're not for sale right away you're redirected to the baby tiels they have "but if you look in this aviary, these are our baby tiels ...."

That must be pretty disappointing. I had fallen in love with many, many birds over the years from Zebra finches to African Greys, its so upsetting when you have to leave them. But even more when you find out they're not even for sale. But they do sound like a good shop...;)

ahh that isn't very nice. They really need a sign. One of my favourite stores, the guy rescues cockatiels and keeps them in an aviary in the backroom. But since they are in the backroom no one can fall in love with them (except for me, he allows me back there to see them :))
