hi, I'm a new member. and I got a question
I got a cockatiel a month a go. I didn't know anything about them.
I asked for a hand fed gray male. his/her name is Cookie.
but after reading online I'm pretty sure I got a female.(an adult with tail&head patterns like gray females, dark beak and feet. and it doesn't sing )
attached a photo
WDYT?
THANKS!!
sadly no, i don't.
I'll try to call the pet store owner
Edited: with my little knowledge on the subject, I concluded that its is an adult (more than one year old), because he has dark feet and beak.
i might be wrong.
also its moulting, little micro white feathers are everywhere in the room.
If it's already gone through its first molt (so over ten months old), then it is most likely a female. If you really want to know right away though, you could always DNA it through HealthGene. Sorry I couldn't be of much help.
It is likely a pretty female. Female's are very nice and smart usually. Have you seen under her wings? This may help you with the age but someone else might be able to confirm how reliable it is.
Yes, wing spot sexing is a pretty reliable way of telling. I tried it with my male cockatiel when he was three months old, and it worked quite well. Here is the wing spot sexing of a male to compare with.
Hi if its very young it won't sing yet, could be male yellow starting to show through on head and orange cheek patch looks quite bright needs a bit more tlme to mature or DNA sex it .
