I think it'd be fun to do a poll here...This particular one is from birdchannel.com. :) If you have MTS (multiple 'tiel syndrome) :p you can vote for all since multiple choices are allowed.

Here's my votes:
Baby- sad to say but absolutely no planning when into getting her. I went to get budgie food and fell head over heels with her as she did with me. There was this connection that I just can't explain. I would do it all over in a split second.

Ziggy- lots of planning and waiting, and searching petstores. It took months to find him but when I did I just knew he was it! Beat up, bruised and firghtened he came home with me.

Wow, Well heres how mine happened. I was emailing breeders because i was looking to get a pair shipped in. Color didn't matter. I email one breeder in nova scotia an she lead me to the add pam had about 3 cockatiel babies for sale. i emailed her asking if she would breeding again and it just so happened that the pair was sitting on eggs. We went and saw them and it was love. We named them (the pair we were getting) hugs and Kisses. We totally fell inlove with these guys and they were such snuggle bugs. Sadly kisses didn't make it. Slush was never a people tiel but we decided to take her anyways. I guess it was just luck i emailed that one breeder and she told me she had none at the time and show me pam. now i have 2 little deamons

I researched about tiels for about 2 months. Before the reasearch I went to a breeder and seen a tiel and I wanted her, I called home and the parents said no way. So I guess you could say I almost got one on impulse aswell. Even though my parents said no, I still researched like crazy. And after a while they agreed that I could get a tiel. So I got everything ready, then went to the breeders. It took me two hours to choose Spike and it turns out he was the first one I picked up. Just goes to show you, to go with your first instincts.

I had wanted a tiel and searched and found a beautiful Lutino boy, the day I was to pick him up I was told that they changed their minds. I was very disappointed. Had everything set up, the kids were excited. After I pouted for a bit I went back and emailed a couple about another two birds that I had liked but were $100 over my price range. I knew it was a long shot but I made an offer. The couple liked me and felt comfortable giving me Rocky and Stella. Worked out for the best in the long run!:D

it was sort of planned and unplanned at the same time......

I had planned to get a tiel...male one... so I went to a couple breeders... and I was determined to get out of there with one... so one breeder´s birds were just not that appealing to me... and the other was so-so.... so I picked up Maui from there (again i wanted a male)...I picked her because "he" was the prettiest... the rest were "females" adn their color was dull hence I wanted I male, besides the whistling part....

well Maui ended up being female, go figure..... then I once again planned gettign a male for her, a 100% sure male.... so I went to the breeders once again...

I picked up Cotton, such a deal for a WF here... I could just not pass him up, although there was a chance he was a she, as he was really young and being a pied, well you know.... so I took him...I loove pieds and a WF was sooo cool!!.... then I went to another breeder and they had this pied cuties among normal greys and some pearls... I was looking for either a heavy pied or a lutino, but 100% male, so out of the two pieds I took Jack... which we were 80 % sure was male.....

so for the planning that turned unplanned I ended up woth three tiels intead of one... now I have eggs from Jack and Maui, hoping they hatch, I plan on keeping a girl (depending mutatiion) to be Cotton´s girl.... or get Cotton a WF chick ;)... I plan on breeding WF, but ned to know what Jack is split to too... as he might be lutino

Sawyer was planned for (in a sense). I'd been in love with 'tiels for awhile. I visited the same pet store and picked him up two or three times before I decided I wanted him. I spent a day checking several pet stores for the best cage, brought that home, then went out and got him the same night. :)

It might sound awful but I told my husband I wanted to go look and think about getting a bird. I was split between a cockatiel and a parakeet. We ended up at PetSmart and he started putting things in the cart and told me we were getting a bird for me. I ended up with a mix of parakeet and cockatiel supplies and no bird so we went to a pet store and I was still intending to look at the different birds but when I saw a gorgeous lutino I knew I had to have her. It was really an after thought to find out her sex etc because I was going to take her home regardless.
