Hello Folks, This cockatiel is new to my aviary and the Pedigree is unknown. Its is a male. It will be a great help if anyone help me to understand the mutation from the visual clues. My presumption is, this male might be split to pearl and so it has ghost pearls. Thanks in Advance.

If I would guess I would say possible split pearl... It's hard to tell if this is genuine pearling or interrupted feathers due to the pied mutation though. Ghost pearling doesn't guarantee it is a carrier of pearl or dominant silver though. There is a gene called the spot Gene that can cause ghost pearling as well. Tielfan one of our members has written a bit about it. She can probably tell you more.

Also, be sure this is a male. The pied mutation can sometimes make it very difficult to tell unless the bird was dna sexed.
