How many of you take your Tiels outside? If you do what do you put them in if anything?

I've been taking Lulu outside for about an hour a day for the past 3 days. At first she was a little scared as she heard all the cars going by and as she saw the birds flying around. But now she seems to enjoy it. I bought a carrier from Petco. It has a perch inside of. I put some toys in there, and food and she perches and looks out. Or I'll put her on my finger and hole her over the carrier. I had her wings clipped but I'm still scared that she'll try and fly and get hurt. My Avatar is a picture of her outside in the carrier.

I put Dooby and Daisy outside when it is warm enough here, they love it. I have a spare cage for them downstairs though, so they go in that one. I think your pet carrier looks ok as long as she isn't going to be in there hours. I certainly wouldn't just take her out on your hand, clipped or not, she could easily get spooked and a sudden gust of wind is all it takes to launch them into the air. My two love it outside, I don't leave them on their own though, our neighbour has a cat!!

I want to get Tiki trained enough so I can get him out on nice days to.. I have a carrier for him and was thinking I would do the same thing as you are doing with Lulu.... I can't get the whole cage outside as I have a step down and would more than likely tip the cage over. The cage sits on a stand..

Tikis wings are clipped too, but the last couple of days when I have finally gotten him out of his cage and finally stepping up, he has also shown me that even with wings clipped he can still fly pretty darn good... so wouldn't dare take him outside without being in something.

Glad you can get her out... they need the sun just like we do... :) Maybe more so..

I agree with the others, clipped wings aren't adequate restraint to take them outside, either use a small cage or buy a harness to get Lulu used to. :D I recommend the Aviator harness, i've heard nothing but good things about it and it's probably the most secure harness you would find for the little guys. I have a FlightSuit but i refuse to use it on Cookie unless her wings are clipped, to me velcro isn't a good enough buckle, and if she got a fright and took off suddenly i wouldn't trust it not to pop open. :p

The carrier is a descent size. I only take her out for about a half hour. I open the top of the carrier and sit it on my lap. I always make sure my hands are resting on the side of the carrier just in case she tries to climb out. When I perch her on my finger I make sure shes right over the carrier that sits on my lap and I hover my other hand over her wings. She enjoys it. Except today she was really nervous for some reason so I brought her right back inside.

When I took Nibbles and baby out when we first got them I use the flight suit, They nibbled on it at first (while we were still in the house), but once it was on them for a couple minutes they were fine (they're older birds)

my flight suit came with a Lead (leash) and it's pretty short, and you put it over your shoulder like the straps of a bag/purse etc. So if they do try to fly off they're not getting far.

my b/f takes our Quaker camping with him and he wears his flight suit and he's in his cage,

but my b/f keeps the flight suit on him while they're outside, So if he goes for a walk he can Take billy with him on his shoulder instead of lugging billy's big cage all around the camp site

Billy is scared of everything and refuses to go to a different cage - So getting a carrier for him isn't a option

I do put mine outside but they're outside in a cage. I would love to get an Aviator harness and be able to take them outside without worrying that they'll take off within seconds. (I seen one on special at the pet barn for $43 but didn't have the money then and it was the last one left.)
