Hullo, all! :)
I'm Jessica, 18 years old, from West Virginia (US). I own a young budgie (from 5-7 months old, not sure exactly on her age, though) and I plan on getting a tiel very soon. My Dad's talking about buying me one sometime in early February. I fell in love with them ages ago when my Mom and Grandma had one, but I was too young then to properly care for them on my own, therefore, I'm afraid I have no idea what I'm doing :p
I got my budgie in October, thinking she was a he, but recently she's proved her gender to me and taught me quite a bit about caring for small birds, but I still don't wanna go into owning a tiel without the proper knowledge!
So I asked about it on my favorite budgie forum, Talk Budgies, and was directed here.. and here I am! :D
So.. I just wanted to introduce myself before I started poking and nosing about xD
Hoping to see you all around, Jes.

Welcome to Talkcockatiels, Jes. Glad to hear you are doing your research before you get your tiel. Too many people rush into getting them ASAP. When you do get your baby, I can guarantee you'll love him/her. They make such excellent pets.

Oh yes, please please share lots of pictures of your lovely budgie hehe. :D

Thanks for the welcome, guys :)
Yeah, I'll admit I did rush into buying my budgie on a whim, but the moment I got her home I looked up everything I possibly could and she's doing fine now. Spoiled, but just fine :p I'll share pictures once I can, but I'm having too much fun nosing about here and looking at all the pretty little tiels for the moment

Thanks (=
Yes, I've been doing my exploring and I'm already gaining a bit of confidence! :p
And as for whoever asked about my budgie, I can't hold back any longer.. she's my little spoiled angel-baby (hm.. wonder how she came to be so spoiled? certainly not because I call her my little angel-baby?)
First pictures just an adorable one I always show off.. it was nearing bedtime for us both and I looked over and she was all fluffy.

Second one's just a random shot I got of her while we were in South Carolina. I had only had her about a 4 hours then lol.

Anyway, there's my Attie. I'll be taking more pictures of her in her new cage soon as I get some batteries for the camera xD

Those pictures are about 2-3 months old, and from what I see now, here cere's turning white around the nostrils. I've been confused for weeks on the gender, but I'm finally almost positive it's a girl :p I'll try and get some updated pictures up, but the camera's on the fritz at the moment. No batteries.
Anywho, thanks all! (=

In that mutation males can have a light white ring around their nostril. It's the deep translucent pink that tell it's a boy, no matter how young he was in that pic. My dec has that same ring and is ALL male. Anyways, you can post updated pics to confirm.

I didn't know that. I've been confused for decades about it.. the moment I brought Attie home, I posted pictures and asked, and most thought she was a boy, then a few weeks ago, the white showed up and I automatically went "AHA! White means girl, white means girl, he's a girl". I had no idea the mutation would come into play on it, though.. seesh! That pinky bit below the nostrils is still there, though, and she (or, well, I guess HE again ) hasn't molted yet.
