I bought my cockatiel a toy for the 1st time ever, the toy is roughly her size and its one of those biting toys but shes really scared of it and I'm not too sure how to make her use/Play with it. If anyone has any ideas I would be more than happy to hear them.

P.S she loves playing with bottle caps, small objects, maybe I overwhelmed her with the bigger toy.

Thanks.

What is the toy made of and is it brightly coloured? My flock prefer natural wood toys with wicker balls and loofah, bascially anything that's chewable and easily shredded.

If the bottle caps are made of metal please don't let your 'tiel play with them as it's not safe.

new toys

You could hang it outside of her cage, within sight, but not close enough to scare her. She'll see it's not dangerous. You could gradually move it closer and maybe she'll accept it. If not, don't use it. It's not worth stressing her out over a toy.

Awesome! I put it near the cage (Usually she hang out place) and she was scared at 1st but she started biting it and left some bite marks, she's getting used to it. Thanks!

I’m glad she’s getting used to the new toy. I actually had the same problem with my cockatiel that I got. Her previous owner never gave her any actual toys even as an adult. When I gave her a real toy, she did not like it either. She was afraid of it. After a little bit, she also worked up the courage to cautiously start messing around with it. After awhile, she loved it. I think your bird will come around to feel the exact same with her toy. It just takes some time for them to figure it out, from my experience.
