I am new to Cockatiel talk
I have 4 cockatiels I have rehomed. 3 males and 1 female I think.
They are all different. 2 are white faced. 3 are pied. one is cinnamon.

Im trying to understand the different mutation.
If I breed the female, Im not sure which male to breed her too.
She seems to be bonding with the pied with a yellow head. ( she has a white head and is pied.

I don't understand what a split is and how do I know what my birds are split too?
If I did a DNA test on them all would that tell me the mutation of each bird?

I wish I had more experience with split to this or that but I don't. I can tell you that a DNA test will only advise what sex the bird(s) are. It has nothing to do with mutations. From your photos, it looks like you have two beautiful whiteface ( which I have a weakness for ) and one pied. The grey one with the yellow head. You may have already figured this out, but WE don't pick the birds mate....THEY do! I have a male whiteface, and a female cinnamon pearl whiteface that are bonded and cage mates but that don't seem to be interested in breeding. Welcome to the forum and keep us posted with what ever you come up with.

hi Robert thanks for responding to my post.
The two in the picture were cage mates, female on left , male on right. I think the male is young ( under a year old) . But the male in the second pic he is older and he has been a breeder before. He is now chasing the female around the aviary. I think the female is the one who decides who will be her mate, so I will see if those two warm up to each other.

IF that female whiteface does warm up the the male, I'm REAL curious to see what you come up with baby wise! I too have a male that looks similar to yours and if Buzz ( my whiteface male ) isn't interested in Auzzie ( the whiteface female ) maybe those two would hook up. Right now we are just trying for combinations we don't already have.

hi Robert, thanks for asking. The female pied white face has hooked up with the cinnamon white face male. He is sitting on 1 egg so far in nesting box. Only thing is I have not seen the two of the mating at all.
I believe im going to have to move them into a separate cage as there are 3 other males in the aviary and it is causing a lot of fighting as they all want to be in the nesting box.
What are your thoughts?

That's a VERY good idea to put the two potential parents in a cage by themselves. Infact, that's JUST what we are doing. We purchased a new cage just for breeding and received it yesterday! Hopefully we can get Buzz and Auzzie to mate! She is a cinnamon pearl whiteface and Buzz is a whiteface male.
