Good Morning!

I’m a new cockatiel, and any bird, owner. I’ve ordered a much larger cage and am very excited to outfit it and move my bird in. Currently, in its (no gender yet) smaller cage, lots of time is spent at the bottom messing around. So, I took out the grate and put bedding in the tray so that it could enjoy that space.

It looks like that won’t be possible in the new cage; from what I can tell in the pictures. I was wondering if there is a recommendation for a safe mat or material that I can cut to fit on top of the grate to allow for safe and comfortable use of the bottom of the cage. I’ve included the website picture of the bottom of the new cage.

Thanks so much for your help!

Maybe you could put an old towel you dont use anymore on top of the grate

You could use a regular towel or a paper towel. Personally, my cockatiels aren't bothered by the grate at the bottom of the cage. There are newspapers in the poop trays, but that's about it. It's mostly dependent on what your bird likes.

Good luck!
