Hello!
just found your group. New bird came home today who is trained and loves being on our shoulders. Out of cage most of the day.
It’s now night and trying to get him settled in cage and all he does is circles, climbing around and being restless.
Is it bad to leave them out is cage? How long does it take for them to settle in cage? Maybe

Hi! My girls are very rarely ever locked in their cage, but obviously that depends on your household, schedule, other pets, birdproofing etc. Just be prepared if you do leave him out, I often wake up with a tiel on my pillow half an inch from my face 😂. It is probably a good idea to have some cage time each day just so he is comfortable with it and won't blow a fuse if you ever do have to keep him in there for whatever reason. Congrats on your new baby!

Hi. That is so awesome, will the birds sleep on your pillow?

We keep him out during the day and he is always on our shoulder now - it is so hard to keep him just next to us he always wants to be on us or near us. He will fly to find us if he can't see us. it is so cute - now to get him to stop nibbling :)

Lol, well my older bird can't fly, according to her previous owner she has never been able to. She had a physical exam, and is fine, but at 9 years old I doubt that will change. She only lets my husband handle her anyway, but my younger girl is on me at all times when I'm in the room. She sleeps great in the dark but as soon as the sun comes up she's on the pillow preening my hair, chattering, or heaven forbid climbing up my face 😅

Sounds like he's super bonded with you guys, they're such sweet little birds. My husband's bird loves sharing snacks. Mine hasn't taken a real liking to "people food" yet, but you can have fruits, veggies, scrambled eggs.... Tia would sell her soul for a cheerio lol. Give plenty of attention, things for them to do, toys they can shred or forage for hidden treats. Rearrange and alternate different toys every few weeks to shake things up. An entertained bird is a happy bird! Also brace yourself for "self soothing behavior " lol, if you know what I mean. Many years ago I had a male, and I swear I couldn't even keep a stuffed animal in the room 🤦🏼‍♀️😆
