Hello there and welcome to the forum. :)

Because your baby is a pearl cockatiel you won't be able to visually tell the gender until he/she has gone through a molt or two. Females keep the pearl pattern so their appearance remains the same but males lose it and end up looking more like a normal grey. You can get a DNA test if you want to know the gender right away - your vet can do it for you or you can do it online.

The breeder didn't know? Did the breeder tell you the bird's parent's mutations? That may help as pearl is sex-linked. If mom was NOT a pearl, baby is a girl. If mom was a pearl, baby can be either gender and then yes, you would have to wait until the first molt to tell.

Baby is a female then as mom isn't a pearl. Unless mom had pearling the breeder didn't notice but for now I'd go with female.
