Hi, I just got Maya last week took her to the vet yesterday because she doesnt eat much and doesnt go to the bathroom much. She is only 73grams and is 3 months old. The vet is concerned about her weight. He took blood and stool and will have the results tomorrow. However, she loves this seeded treat i got her. The vet said he would rather her eat that then nothing until we figure out what is going on. I would normally feed her Organic Pellets and very little cockatiel seed eventually keeping her on the pellets. She doesnt want anything though except those treats. i also give her some safe table food. the thing is, i found out that she was never hand fed. She may not have gotten the nutrients she needed when she was growing. I tried to hand her a high potency food the vet gave me and she wont eat it. Does anyone know a high-potency food I could give her? She needs to eat more and gain some weight.

I would keep giving her the seed, I wouldn't totally cut the seed out and just give her pellets, seed is a natural part of a cockatiels diet, so it still should be offered in small amounts, hopefully you will have some answers tomorrow when the vet gets to the bottom of whats going on. Was she eating the pellets? did you totally cut off the seed and just feed her pellets? have you tried putting just seed in her dish to see if she will eat it?

She has both pellets and seeds. She really doesnt eat the seeds either though. She goes for that sugery seed treat that hangs on the cage. I tried handfeeding her both and she takes a little then wants to crawl on my shoulder. I give her food from my plate like veggys and rice but she still hasnt gained anything. She was 77 grams when i got her, now she is 73. Also, the vet had to get a gram stain from her and since she didnt go to the bathroom, he had to get it himself. Last night 4 drops of blood came out of her butt. She was trying to go but couldnt. Thank God this morning when I got up I saw green poo again and no blood. I got mad at the vet when that happend with the blood and he claims that never happened when he did that and that she could have pollups or that something else was going on. I just hope that she eats normal and all this stuff goes away.

Ok, so just back the news. Her white blood cells are too high. That could be whats causing eating less, losing weight and not too active. I am picking up medicine for her after work today and the doc said in 24-36 hours, she should be normal. I am glad its nothing serious. Thank you all for your support!

I gave her medicine twice so far...i was not happy this morning to see she lost more weight and is now 71 grams. I see her by her seeds all the time, but I feel like she is picking and moving things around rather then eating. My husband says she is sick and to give her time but I am paranoid. She surprisengly has alot of energy though.
