Three months ago I bought a cinnamon cockatiel who was sold as a male, supposedly DNA tested. Pet shop employee was unsure of age, but guessed about 4-6 months old.
However, I struggle quite a bit with visually sexing cinnamons, as the hens have more yellow on their face than a regular grey cockatiel. I also have never raised a male bird, so I'm not sure how the development of their adult plumage is supposed to go.

Some important info:
— It has had what appears to be a full molt. Lots of small feathers around, but only one flight feather and one tail feather were molted. This was a way tamer molt than my whiteface's first molt;
— The new tail feather that's growing in is pale yellow and barred. That's the main reason I'm not sure about its sex. I know the tail is the last bit to change, but I'm not sure what changes to expect since I'm not familiar with how a male develops its adult plumage;
— It hasn't shown any hormonal behavior yet. No masturbation (thank God), no interest in nesting, no courting behavior. It has, however, tried to whistle, but it hasn't attempted to mimic any song or sound even when prompted to.

Thanks in advance to whoever answers

Hi! I recently bought a tiel that looks just like yours and I face the same problem. Most of the people in this forum believe that it's a male but I have my doubts regarding its behavior as well. 🧐 Mine according to the pet shop owner is about 6-9 months old. Have you been able to identify the gender after all? Btw that's Kiko🥰

i would say yours is a female based on facial coloration- females tend to have paler red and yellow on their faces, while males tend to have more vibrant coloration. However, personality also does alter opinions. One of the biggest differences is their sound; males tend to have more melodic chirps and often chirp more, whereas females are a lot quieter and sound more shrill.
While this might work, this is only what I have learned and might not fully determine the gender, and might be incorrect.
Hope this helps!

I believe your cockatiel is a male. Now know days you can't go based on physical looks due to all the mutations breeders are making and people how incest breed unfortunately. Yellow face Definitely male. Females have more of faded out and dull color.
