Hi
I got my cockatiel on the June 13 th and she's amazing I adore her she is sweet and demands attention. When I take her out of the cage she makes those baby screaming noises and doesn't really stop.I can pet her and when she falls asleep on me she obviously stops.I am worried that she might be hungry , the pet store I brought her from had her on budgie seeds.I gave her some budgie seeds and also provided pellets. She didn't eat the pellets so I got her smaller pellets.I tried to soften them with warm apple juice. I don't want her to eat budgie seeds all the time I don't know what to do I think that's all she wants to eat ! Any advice and can anyone explain why she screams so much?

Hi there sounds like she is begging for food, a lot of baby tiels do this after they are weaned it usually stops after a few weeks, have you tried giving her cockatiel seeds? not all cockatiels like the pellets I offer them to mine as well I have two that eat them and love them and two that prefer other things I just put mine in the cage and leave them for them to nibble on when they want, have you tried offering any other foods to her? I would offer veggies and fruits its better to get them started when they are young it might take some time for her to get use to them but seeds are not enough to keep her healthy

I tried to offer her fruits and she didn't want to eat them when I put them in the cage she throws it around .I blended fruits into a mush and she just walked in it and got herself dirty .The thing is whenever there are seeds in the cage she isn't interested in anything else but seeds or millet spray.

Its just going to take time, I would try the veggies, tiels are not known to be big fruit eaters there are some that will but none of mine are, they love there veggies and anything else they can get there beaks on :p keep offering them everyday try different kinds parsley, corn and carrots are favourites at my house you can hang it up put it on a plate, fresh or frozen there are many ways to try it eventually she will come around some are just a little more stubborn at first ;)

I would make sure not to leave any egg food in the cage for too long and take it out after an hour or two. I got some egg food for Spike but stoped using it after I learned of Bea's tiels getting a bacterial infection, possibly from the egg food. Iam sure Bea could explain better. How is he eating seeds now? Have you tried giving him cooked carrots? Spike enjoys them, hope this helps :)

what about that eggfood product? I gave that to mine too when he was not so sure of what to do with the seeds, he still gets it now too.
I was told that egg and biscuit food, available from most pet shops, is a breeding ground for bacteria. I refuse to use it at all now. I have 7 birds in the house and only two got sick, and they were the two that had been getting egg food for a week.
