I read that I could feed cockatiel pellets to budgies since the formula is the same, the size is just different. But ever since I switched them to it one of my budgies has been eating almost every second of everyday. I let them free roam in my room and leave the cage door open. Even then he’d rather sit in the cage and eat and eat and eat while the rest of the flock is out doing normal bird things. Theres always dried seed on his beak and he chews with his mouth wide open (not like the normal nibbles they do when they eat). Anybody have an idea what might be going on?

Maybe it's supplying a nutrient that he wasn't getting before, and that's why he's going crazy with it. Are you sure that he's actually swallowing it, and not just crunching it up and letting the pieces fall?

It's OK to let him overindulge for a while. He'll eventually settle down and be less crazy about it.
