My cockatiel and budgie share the same cage. My budgie got prescribed with doxycycline and milk thistle in the water. I was wondering if it's safe for my cockatiel to be drinking that same water? I called the vet to confirm, but it's my first time in that vet and just wanted to see if anyone has heard/done that before?

No! If there is nothing wrong with your cockatiel, why give him something he doesn't need? That med. was for your budgie, not the tiel.

That's what I thought too. I called the vet just in case and she said it's perfectly fine and it won't harm my cockatiel. I wanted to ask other bird owners about this because I felt like that wasn't right even though they are certified experts.

Do you have any ideas on how I can get only my budgie to drink that water? I was planning on buying a small cage to isolate him, but then I realized that he's used to going in the big one obviously. And I don't want to keep him inside for 2 weeks because he's loves to fly around the house..

Well....in order to get the budgie to drink from the bowl he's used too, I'd say leave it as is. I'm still not keen on the idea of the the tiel drinking water that has meds in it but if the vet said it was ok, I guess you make the call.

I decided that I'll put the medicated water in the bowl and make sure he drinks it first. Then I clean it out and fill it up with normal water. Does that sound ok? Or would it be better to be continously drinking medicated water? I assume it's like humans and taking vitamins once a day? Agh I'm sorry what a dilemma
