Hi everyone! Four days ago I got a new cockatiel for my flock from a breeder I trusted- but got it home and saw it had what I believe were feather mites - the bird is just 9 weeks old, no damage to the feathers, and they were big bugs (well, almost 1milimetre) that ran out onto its eyelids when it sleeked down in fear when it saw a crow outside. So. the (not and avian vet) vet of the breeder sprayed her with aristopet mite and lice spray, and told me to do that again the next day day. i sprayed on her back, but not under her wings. the bugs are gone now (i checked her thoroughly and watched her), i am washing the cover sheet and cleaning the cage daily, and i can't see any eggs on her, no big infestations for sure. but what will happen in a week or so when any eggs would hatch? would the one aristopet spray residue still kill any new mites, or should i spray her again? i don't want to hurt her, even if i don't get her eyes of douse, i am worried it could be to much. does anyone have any experience with this? i have her quarantined from the flock and i'm being super careful, but i worry... for such a young bird, and my flock is clean, i just want to solve the situation properly ... the breeder said he gave her that drop on the back of the next thing 3 weeks ago .... but clearly he missed her. .. any advice?

Why not take your bird to a bird specialists? I know its expensive, but still. Or you can ask a vet online for help. You would have to pay but its not that expensive. They might tell you how to get rid of the eggs, or at least be sure that they are gone for good. My bird never got mites, so I really don't know. Sorry.

I have never had an infestation but prior to breeding I spray my birds and nests with vetafarm avian insect liquidator. I spray as instructed about 5 sprays per bird but I use it on their chest and under their wings. It has a residual effect and should be repeated after about 6 weeks. I bought it from our local Vet or it is readily available in bird suppliers or online
