Can I mist my birds multiple times a day during summers? I already misted them two times today but after 1-2 hours they are again breathing heavily. As I spray, one of them even seems to enjoy it by spreading wings. I hope they won't catch cold if I spray them very often but I can't risk them over-heating too

misting

Hi Zed - do you keep your cockatiels outside? If so, be sure to keep them in a shaded area if you live in a hot climate. Since cockaties are native to Australia, they can take hot weather, but not direct sun. Outside they would tend to dry quickly after misting, so I think that would be okay. If it is just very warm in your house, I would think misting frequently would be okay. Just don't put them in front of a fan when they are wet. As you have noted, you can tell by their behavior if they feel overheated. And they do seem to enjoy misting; mine does too! Just don't overdo it by soaking them. Another way of keeping them cool is to hang some wet lettuce or other greens in their cage. They can rub against that and even have a nibble of salad!

Hey Janalee. That wet lettuce idea sounds very good. Although my cockatiels are kept in a room, they aren't exposed to sun still high humidity is making it warmer. These days even nights get sometimes too hot, can I mist them at night too ofcourse when they are not asleep?
