Metal leaching from binder clip that holds spinach leaf?

The perfect way to give Bruce spinach or other greens is to clip it next to his food dish using the smallest size black binder clip that has the two flappy parts on either side. He doesn't eat down to the clip, but I'm still concerned that some metal is leaching out. I think the most I leave it there is 5-6 hours, and he certainly doesn't eat the leaf that whole time (I don't even let him eat a whole leaf). Any safety info would be great. Thanks.

I don’t know what their made of. Only stainless steel , and gold is safe from what I know. Sorry I’m not much help, I use plastic clips bought online.

Hi Baksmom,

I've heard the metal binder clips are relatively safe, but if you use them constantly, I would suggest using some old-fashioned wooden clothes pins from the dollar store instead. They work great for my budgies (new to cockatiels and this site), I just make sure to remove the clips now after use because the birds chew through the soft wood very quickly.
