I am starting to wonder if my supposed 2 year old male is in fact a female. From I've seen online he shows the markings of a male or rather lacks the tail bars of a female. However other than the first morning of whistling and mimicking our whistles and a few chirps here and there he is quiet and tends to squawk more than anything else and that seems to be when he's anoyed. We have only had him a few days and have noticed he hisses if he is not interested in being picked up, does; t seem to care about a mirror, doesn't sing back to youtube. None of our vets do DNA testing in fact only one in the area sees birds. Maybe he needs to settle in? It's our first bird of any kind so new and exciting. Would like to know the sex as our plan was to possibly get another eventually but don't want and surprise babies.
