Hey..this is going to be a silly question but I need to know what's the best way to cook the babies some lentils..I have no idea how much to cook and how much water...do I boil the water first? etc? I'm cooking for 8 budgies, 2tiels and maybe a little portion for me too.:p Thanks!!!

To cook lentils, rinse and drain. Cover with water and boil for 2 to 3 minutes (to aid in digestion). Reduce heat and simmer until tender. Depending on the variety cooking time may take anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour.
1 cup dry lentils = 2 to 2-1/2 cups cooked.
1 pound dried lentils = 2-1/4 cups dry.
1 pound dried lentils = 4 servings.
1 pound dried lentils = 5 cups cooked.
You're so helpful! I wonder how much I'll need to cook...

I was wondering that to with 10 of them and you I don't know :p I wouldn't think more then a few cups?
Maybe two cups...half for me- half between the tiels and one cup for the budgies..
When i cook them i just rinse them, put them in boiling water until they're soft, then drain and rinse again. The tiels like them that way.
The lentils that I buy have to be soaked overnight in cold water.

Just check the instructions on the pack, make sure you cook enough, Dooby loves them!!
Thanks Plukie- these say no rinse...I'm trying them now.
