I am looking for information on leg banding a tiel. I had it all but no longer i guess. I had information as well as photographs and drawings on this, explaining and showing the age to do this as well as info on how to do this.
I have a friend in another state and i guess his neighbor breeds tiels and would like to band them, he ask me for the information because he knows i have it, or had it.
I took the information (or at least some of it) off the web but can not find any real info or drawings now.
My question is does any one have the info or a link to it, thanks...be happy.

I think you have to be a member of a club to be able to get the closed ring with breeder information on the rings. :) If you use closed rings you would slip it over their legs starting by going over the front two toes and then just pulling it all the way over. I think 9 days old sounds about right, but you would have to be careful and try a couple of days before to be sure the baby isn't getting too big, some grow faster. :p

I've only ever used split rings before, they can be put on at any time and come with a little tool for putting them on. :)

Bands

You don't have to be a member to get closed bands, you can get them from L&M bands and you can get your state your initials and consecutively numbered as well.
I been getting bands there for a while. I know how to put them on but a friend wanted the pictures and stuff on it that i had. He asked me for a copy but i cant find mine and i looked on the web for them because i got the info there a few years ago. I cant find it so that's why i asked if any one knew the site. Thanks though...be happy.

Leg Bands

The thing is you can buy closed leg bands here from a couple places. The clubs offer bands for sale to there members and i believe there registered by the club. The bands i get (you can buy closed or open) are from L & M bands in California. They have initials on them as well as my state and are numbered as you want. When i band my own birds i write down all the info and keep it in a note book. More for my self then any thing else.
The Cockatiel clubs here in the US are good i guess but i never felt like joining one. And if your not a member you cant use there bands. The price of bands at L & M is around $10.00 for 25 bands so thats not bad. Well enough jabber for now so...be happy.
