I have been training my birds for more than a year. The only things they do is eat some sunflower seeds from my hand or just the normal millet seeds I give them. Even while eating the millet seeds they sometimes lose their interest and go away, even if they are hungry. Most of the time they don't even notice my hand. I don't like to open their cage just in case they fly away. My birds are not at all afraid of coming outside and they will easily fly all around the house. I thought of trimming their wings but my parents will not let me do that. WHAT do I do?

The main thing I am telling you guys here is that I think I am training my birds the wrong way.

There are different ways to train your birds, it all depends on their personalities. http://talkcockatiels.com/showthread.php?t=22073 this way is for birds that are not used to people but not mean or aggressive either. It goes hand in hand with this: http://talkcockatiels.com/showthread.php?t=28661

The other recommendation is for the aggressive birds who don't like people at all. http://talkcockatiels.com/showthread.php?t=33824 When training, you have to make progress. If they eat from your hand, the next step is to make then step on your hand to get the treat. You have to advance what you've done to the next level.

Roxy Culver has excellent advice :) The only thing I can add is keep trying. It may take a while! It took 3 years for some of my birds to sit on my shoulder, even though they still hated hands. I'm lazy, so my birds aren't hugely tame to hands. Your efforts may happen faster.

Good luck!

It's going to take a lot more than a month. You have to build up their trust and that takes time.
