My cockatiel is about 5-6 weeks old but he does not like to walk at all. He will stay in his cage unless i take his out. When he is out he just stand where i put him at unless i keep poking him. The only time he walks or flies is when he is super hungry and sees me bringing him food. After he has some food he will stop moving but keep crying for more food if he is not full yet. The shop where i bought him said it is because they kept him in a very small place and never let him walk so he is not used to that. But it has been 2 weeks since i brought him in. He looks healthy and eats a lot. So i wonder if he is just lazy or it is the nature of some cockatiels.

This is very interesting... Give him some time to adjust, and I suggest taking him to the vet, if you haven't already. For me, when I buy a bird, I always take him to the vet the day after, just to make sure.
If the vet says it's fine, you should probably let him adjust. 2 weeks isn't THAT long of time, anyways. If he knows how to step up, I suggest maybe trying to show him around the room / house...? It's the only thing I can think of. I hope I helped!

He is not playful like other birds, so i am worried. He does not explore the new place, just look scared about everything. The vet did not seem to know what the problem is neither. Hopefully, it is just his personality or he needs time to adjust.

My baby bird is 5 weeks old and I raised him from the first day he was born and when I take him out his cozy nest box where he sleeps he also just stands around looking at everything with wonder in his eyes, everything is new to them when mine walks he walks straight to me and want to cuddle in my chest or else he Wil also just stand around and stair at the other birds or plants etc. Don't feel anything is wrong with your birdy it's a big new world out there for them they are amazed at everything around them it's very normal so I would not worry about this he Wil crawl out of his shell and get to the playful stage very soon. I mean mine does the same and he was born here and there is nothing wrong with my birdy either its just allot to take in for them getting use to the different smells, and vibrations and scenery. My little bird love staring at plants he finds plants and the colours so fascinating.

Thank you for your replies. My cockatiel did not even walk to me nor asked for any kind of affection, instead he would cried nonstop until i brought food to him. I heard that parasites could make a bird lose energy and does not want to play or move, so i gave him a parasite pill. Hopefully this can solve the problem.
