Bird Vertebrate Textile Parrot Feather

Hello, I recently acquired a 3 month old handfed cinnamon pearl cockatiel, at least that’s how the pet described it. One of my issues is that rainbow is struggling to get around in his cage, is it normal? Is it going to get better?

I have a cage exactly like that except for the color. I think the reason might be that the bars are vertical not horizontal. Birds have a bit more difficulty going across vertical bars than horizontal, but I'm sure Rainbow will adjust quite quickly. My tiels learned how to crawl across the cage easily enough. Another reason could be that it is a new home for him/her, and he/she just needs to get used to it.

Same boat I was in got mine at 2 months same color and same circumstances. I have a large cage. Once she get more balanced and confident she will be all over the cage. Just wait in a couple months you will see. Her cage is a 2 story. She will be fine just make alot of rope bridges so she can get from side to side. When you put her in the cage start her out on the ropes she will figure it out.

I choose cages with both vertical and horizontal bars on cage sides which I have, but are small and separate. Now hard to buy since Covid and very few coming in, largely blocked from China. On saying that, of course I can add verticals around 2 sides of cage. Just have to think outside the box. I am now looking at 1 larger cage for 2 birds that hardly get along, but need their personal space so to speak. Diesel (1) is tame and outgoing, but 11 yr old Mollie is not and wants her personal distance from this young baby compared to her mate of 9 years who died last year. They need natural, crooked branches apart from straight, normal dowel perches. Just my thing to mimick what they may have in the wild.
