I had to move Eddie's cage into the same room with Miley for a couple of hours today, we were doing some work in the bedroom, and he finally got a good look at Miley. After they whistled at each other for about a half an hour we noticed that Eddie's cheek feathers (the orange part) were standing straight out the side of his face. They stood out like his crown on top of his head when he's excited. When I talked to him they smoothed back down, but when Miley chirped they rose back up. Sometimes his crown is up and sometimes it is relaxed. He never did this before with his old female Skuttle, but he did this all afternoon everytime she/he would acknowledge him. My dh thinks he's in love with her lol, and that means she/he is definately a girl. My daughter thinks it means Miley is a boy and Eddie is trying to show that he's king of the hill. Any thoughts? He's now back in the bedroom, but mad because we moved him back. Can't wait to see if he keeps this new trait up when they finally get to move into the same room permanately, but thought someone might have seen this before.

My guys poof their cheek/head feathers out when they're preening usually, i've never head of them using their non-crest feathers to show anything in particular (not like a crest can show mood anyway)...

It is very strange, it's almost like he is peacocking up. lol He is not preening at the time. He just stares at Miley and the cheeks come out. I have looked thru all my books and nothing comes up. I am leaning towards my dh's side that he is having a love at first sight moment. Will be interesting when I can get them together permanetly.

Maybe he's sitting there in a huff because someone else is taking up the attention. If anyone is familiar with the Pokemon Jigglypuff - she puffs out her cheeks when she gets annoyed...then she scribbles on everyone with her texta. Maybe the next thing Eddie will try is pooping on Miley. :rofl:

I know what you mean about it looking funny!! I adore poofy cheeked birds.
