Hi guys,

I have a 13-month-old male 'Kiki', who had really bonded with us. I felt he felt lonely when I am at work, so we brought a baby last month, Koko. I think Koko is a female (hopefully), now she must be around 60 days. When I let them play under my supervision, they both seem curious

and try to nibble each other's tails at times, but I find my older bird, Kiki avoiding Koko. They are now in the same cage, however, he seems to walk away if she goes toward him. I really hope they'll be a good companion to each other when I am busy, but watching how Kiki behaves, I am concerned about whether he will accept the new bird as a friend.

Does anybody have any similar experience? or have managed to introduce a companion to your pet. Appreciate any advice.
Thank you

Your tiels are super cute!
I'm not too sure about nibble tail thing, my tiel ALWAYS does that to other cockatiels she meets, I can't say thats a bad thing, I reckon it's just curiousness! ;)

Give them time, tiels usually bond over time

It takes a little time for them to acclimate to new birds. Give them a few weeks of supervised playing together. I had two a male and female. Lost my first male. Got another male but he is only 5 months old. Female is 7 months old so they are both babies. They are starting to preen. And sitting together.

I think it all comes down to their personalities. I bought two that were described as a bonded pair ( male and female) but my boy Donald didn’t care much for his supposed partner. He tolerated her id say. When Daisy passed away I left it a while to get another just to see how Donald did. When I got Darcy she was only about 3 months old and Donald by this time was about 1 1/2. She was friendly and patient. They took to each other within hours of meeting and get along and thankfully with no funny business.
Give it time and I’m sure it will improve.
